A picture tour of our cozy home & property!
For those of you who would like to see how we live and where our dogs & puppies are born and raised, I am happy to share pictures of our cozy home, including our "Chi's bedroom" and crate area, and our fully fenced yard.
We have a very small IN-HOME breeding program; You can see all my dogs & puppies live as pets inside our smoke-free home, and are well cared for and well loved. We do not have kennels, outbuildings or dog runs. What you see in these pics is the whole house; it is single level, no basement and no second story, so we are not hiding a single thing. We only crate some of our Chis for bedtime, and some get placed into their "bedroom" while we are gone briefly during the day for work or errands, but only for their own safety as we also have a somewhat clumsy Rottweiler.

Why a picture tour instead of a real tour?
After much contemplation, and many discussions with my husband and with other breeders, I have made the decision to not allow unknown visitors into our home to view dogs & puppies, for the safety and wellbeing of my animals, my family and my home.
Unfortunately there have been numerous reports lately of people posing as "puppy buyers" and visiting breeder's homes, only to return later and steal puppies to resell for a profit. I have also heard of animal rights extremists posing as puppy buyers in order to learn where breeders live, so they can harass breeders and vandalize their homes. Unfortunately, local news report headlines such as "Two puppies stolen at knifepoint" (April 2014 in Norwich, Ontario) or "Woman assaulted as puppy stolen from breeder's home" (Nov 2016 in Cochrane, Ontario) are becoming more common. There is even one recent horrifying report of a breeder who was murdered in her own kennel by "puppy buyers" after advertising her poodle puppies online. (June 2016 in Saline County, Kansas). I understand that these are extreme cases, however as I said before, I need to be cautious and proactive for the safety and wellbeing of my animals, my family and my home.
Of course I have had some people comment on my decision, and I understand that many people feel the sign of a good breeder is being welcomed in to view mom & dad & the whole litter. I am aware that common advice given to people shopping for a puppy is "make sure you see the breeder's home" or "beware of breeders who don't let you in" which is excellent advice in most cases. By all means, you as a puppy buyer have the right to be cautious in your decision, and you have the right to look elsewhere for a puppy if you do not feel comfortable with, or if you do not understand or respect our decision.
Please remember that our dogs and puppies live, sleep and are raised in our HOME. We do not run a business, we do not have kennels or outbuildings, we do not have dog runs. Our home is our private & personal sanctuary, and is kept for the comfort and safety of the people and dogs who live within it. We will do all we can to keep our animals, our family & our home safe and secure.
I am happy to provide veterinary references, as well as references from families who have purchased puppies from me in the past. You are welcome to stop by and visit me, and my dogs, out at various dog shows across Ontario. And should you still be suspicious, I would be happy to video chat over FB video messenger so you can get a real-time unedited video tour of your own, to help ease your mind.
If we do decide that one of my puppies is a good match for you, I am always willing to deliver your puppy to your home! This works out wonderfully for me, as just as you are interested in where your puppy was raised, I am equally interested in where my puppy will be living! If this does not work out for either party, due to distance or scheduling, I am always happy to meet at any public "dog-friendly" location where we can sit and have a chat and fill out paperwork (Vet clinics, Pet Stores & bookstores are great choices). I WILL NOT simply meet on the side of a road or in a parking lot. (Delivery is FREE within 100 kilometers driving distance from my home. After 100 kms, a delivery rate of $0.40 per km will apply).
Please feel free to contact me if you'd like any additional information or pictures, or if you'd like to discuss this decision furthur. Thank you.
