ROTTWEILERS, AMSTAFFS & OTHER PETS (Oh my!)
I currently own and show Rottweilers along with my Chihuahuas. I find Rottweilers pair nicely with Chihuahuas, as despite the size difference, the two breeds are actually quite similar! Both breeds are intelligent, loving, loyal, attentive, active & self assured, they are friendly, goofy and full of character, (as well as equally as stubborn & bossy!), plus both are clean breeds with easy grooming requirements - all qualities I admire and love! Just seeing how the Chis & Rotties interact with one another, reminiscent of many cartoons duos, I could not think of a better "little dog & big dog" combo. Before Rottweilers, there were my beloved American Staffordshire Terriers (AmStaffs) that were my first purebreds & first breeding dogs. We unfortunately lost our last elderly AmStaff in February 2015 at the ripe old age of 15 years, which marked the end of an era for us. Sadly, due to the DOLA (the province-wide "pit bull ban") here in Ontario, our life with AmStaffs is a thing of the past. However we have enough to keep us busy and fill the void in our hearts. Over the years there have been numerous dogs & breeds that have stolen my heart, from my childhood Yellow Labradors to the many rescued mutts and strays that have wiggled their way into my heart. Here's some of my "not Chihuahuas" family - past & present.

About Rottweilers:
A medium-large sized robust and powerful breed, 22-27 inches at the shoulder. Weight should be in proportion to the height... average 85 - 110 lbs. Short-coated, black with clearly defined tan or mahogany markings. Rottweilers are a breed of German origin, however there is no separate type or style called a "German Rottweiler"... the breed standards in all kennel clubs are nearly identical, meaning a well bred Rottweiler should look the same worldwide, whether it be from Germany or any other European country, the USA or Canada. Rottweilers should NOT look bulky, heavy or mastiff-like, they should NOT be wrinkled or have loose skin, nor should they be brachycepalic with an overexagerated stop. Beware of breeders that breed for these overdone and incorrect features. |
... AND THE OTHER PETS TOO!
Being an animal lover, I couldn't limit myself to just a pooch family! Some of our critters - past & present.
